When I was a Police Cadet in Fingerprint Department at Wakefield in 1961, Sargeant Devy said that he had a cupboard full of palmprints and could I help him to catalogue them. You get amazing patterns on fingerprints – loops, whirls, composites. As a Constable I detected one shop breaking through sending off glass (and a thumb print on a jam tart) the the department.
