Twisting, overlapping colouring of Haken Gordian Knot. Mick Burton, continuous line.

Twisting, overlapping colouring of Haken’s Gordian Knot. Mick Burton single continuous line drawing painting 2015.

After I realised that the Gordian Knot had similar features to my elephant, I decided to paint it in the same colours to show the twisting effect. A mathematician on a maths website also asked if anyone could draw this.

I mention the link in my later post “How do you construct Haken’s Gordian Knot?” on 5.6.2015. Here is the link

My answer to the query no longer appears on the site as it was taken down due to it being “a low quality answer” the site requiring “10 reputation” people minimum per a posting “protected by Community” dated 7.6.2015 a few days after mine. I accept that, as I am an artist with a longstanding interest in recreational maths only, I merely replied in good faith to Timothy Gowers request for a “picture” of the problem. As other correspondence had ended in 2011 I think it highly likely that Mr Gowers never saw my answer before it was taken down.

Please let me know if my view on the knot is helpful to you.

      Mick
