Lion. Screenprint. Continuous line with alternate shading. Mick Burton, 1969.

Lion, or Mayer single continuous line drawing, large screenprint by Northern Screenprints Ltd. Mick Burton, 1969.

After the other initial animals, I wanted to mix the relaxed muscle effect of the Panther with the ferocious head of a Lion (just like the Metro Goldwy Mayer lion at the start of films). I had also found that the other animals worked at the first attempt, and for the first time wondered if I could do it again. It was also initially done in 1967 in black and white Op Art alternate shading. Northern Screenprints Ltd offered to produce the Lion and three other prints , and nearly had a deal to print 10,000 for Boots but it fell through. I once sold 100 prints in a week.
